SUMMARY:

The South African Professional Development Framework for Digital Learning establishes a professional development guideline for digital competencies in teaching and learning. It focuses on delivering the technological, pedagogical and content knowledge among educators for them to be competent in modelling these knowledge areas into the learning activities. The framework takes a holistic approach to teachers utilising digital technology for:

- Activities with a curriculum focus (to integrate digital tools and resources)

- Leadership in planning and implementing digital learning

Thirteen competencies are listed within these areas with indicators based on knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The resource is supplemented with an online self-assessment tool for teachers in order for them to understand their perceived digital learning competence, allowing educational administrative personnel to estimate needs for professional development.
