The Directorate of TVET of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MINOWC) leads the processes necessary for the advancement of vocational education throughout Suriname. Major areas of activities are: advising the Ministry on policy matters regarding TVET, and managing the schools for TVET (lower and upper secondary level), including budget, personnel and facilities (including physical infrastructure). Also, evaluating teachers, curricula and teaching methods in order to breach gaps, to train and retrain when needed. The responsible bureaus are BMBO (Bureau for TVET upper secondary level)/BLBO(Bureau for TVET lower secondary level).

The Department for TVET is headed by the Permanent Secretary for TVET and assisted by the Assistant Permanent Secretary for TVET. The most important mission of the Department is: Education for all and promoting lifelong learning.
