The Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) is India’s apex national institute for research, development, training and policy support in the field of skill education. It is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) under the Ministry of Education.
PSSCIVE plays a central role in strengthening skill education across schools and teacher education systems in India. The institute develops guidelines, vocational curricula, textbooks, teacher-training modules, assessment frameworks, digital learning resources, virtual skill labs and other resource materials, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
The Institute has the following six Departments:
1. Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
2. Engineering and Technology
3. Business and Commerce
4. Health and Paramedical Sciences
5. Home Science and Hospitality
6. Humanities, Science, Education and Research
PSSCIVE collaborates nationally and internationally on strengthening vocational education in schools, innovations, and best practices. The Institute conducts national and state-level programmes such as:
- Training of teachers and master trainers
- Career guidance tools, such as Career Guide Book with 500 Career Cards and My Career Advisor App.
- Skill competitions and innovation camps
- Entrepreneurship development programmes
- Implementation support for vocational education at the middle stage (Grades 6 to 8) and secondary stages (Grades 9 to 12)
