Established in 1993, Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) is a public higher TVET institution mainly for formal education, one of the oldest higher TVET providers in China. It offers bachelor’s degree and higher TVET diploma programmes. Since its establishment, SZPU has constantly engaged in TVET innovation. With its excellent performance, SZPU is ranked first in various TVET rankings in China. In 1997, SZPU was selected as a pilot college for higher TVET sector in China. In 2009, SZPU became one of the first batch of “national model higher TVET institutions in China”. In 2019, SZPU was selected as one of the top 10 Grade- A institutes in the national ranking of the "Plan for the Development of High-level Higher TVET Institutes and Programs" led by the Ministry of Education, China.

Currently, there are three campuses in SZPU, with a total campus area of 2,682,913 m2 and total floor area of 1,117,900 m2. There are 18 schools with more than 30,000 full-time students, offering such programmes as AI, ICT, mechanical and electrical engineering, economics, management, media and communication, art and design, e-business, applied chemistry and biological technology, construction and environment engineering, digital creation and animation, automotive and transportation engineering, medical technology and nursing, etc. At present, SZPU employs over 2,790 in-service faculty members, among which 1,648 are full-time teachers. 42.03% of them hold doctoral degrees, and 44.8% hold professional titles, including 176 professors.

Over the past five years, SZPU has undertaken 85 national-level research projects, established five national TVET programme resource databases, and accumulated a research fund of 850 million RMB. SZPU demonstrates great strengths in education and training, research and development, community and global engagement. The institution has established partnerships with 194 universities and TVET institutions in 42 countries.
