The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) was founded in 1997 with the core mission of promoting vocational education and training and contributing to improvement in vocational skills among the public in South Korea. To achieve these goals, KRIVET has been conducting policy research and projects on skills development and qualification systems on developing and disseminating vocational education and training programs.

Since its inception, it has consistently conducted research and projects in lifelong learning, vocational competency development, and career education, establishing these as its specialized fields. KRIVET is a national policy research institute under the Prime Minister‘s Office, guided by the vision of becoming "a global research institute for vocational education and training that spearheads the creation of linkage between education and training with employment."

Its initiatives range from policy research on national human resources development and vocational education and training to qualification systems, the development of education and training programs, the evaluation of vocational training institutes and training programs, the management of nationally recognized private qualifications, and the provision of job and career information and counseling services.

KRIVET is one of the partners for employment and job competency, conducting research on national policies for human resource development and supporting the implementation of policies. Furthermore, KRVIET supports the network of stakeholders in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and human resource development (HRD), conducting research on TVET as part of lifelong learning for all and carrying out related projects, and evaluating TVET institutes and their programs upon the government's request.
