The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) was established in 1989 as the national apex body for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Nepal. It is mandated to produce basic, middle, and higher-level technical workforce essential for the country's development. CTEVT is governed by an Assembly with 23 members and a Council with 9 members, both chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education, Science, and Technology.

CTEVT's key functions include formulating TVET policies, classifying skills/occupations, developing occupational skill standards, developing competency-based curricula, administering skill testing and certification, granting affiliations, and assuring quality of TVET programs. It also runs pre-diploma and diploma-level TVET programs, conducts capacity development programs for TVET professionals, and carries out research studies.

CTEVT has 7 provincial offices, 66 constituted technical schools and polytechnics, 57 technical schools through partnership modality, 639 community schools, and 407 affiliated private technical institutes. They offer 18-month pre-diploma and 3-year diploma-level programs. CTEVT institutes are also running 2-year Dual VET apprenticeship programs in various trades. In addition, CTEVT offers short-term, market-driven vocational training programs through its training centers, technical schools, and polytechnics. The duration of these vocational courses ranges from 40 to 1,696 hours (1 week to 1 year).
