Griffith University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university, ranking in the top 3% of universities worldwide. Our network of more than 200,000 graduates extends around the world. The Professional, Vocational and Continuing Education area within the School of Education and Professional Studies is an internationally recognised centre of research and training and development for TVET, including adult, vocational and professional education, and the world of work more generally. It is a key provider of education and training programs, curriculum development, consulting services, and evaluation of programs nationally and internationally. Over the last 40 years, the area has developed, managed and delivered a wide range of adult and vocational education courses nationally as well as internationally for participants from Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Paua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East. Its activities focus on people, institutions and practices (i.e. personal, organisational, community and national) in promoting sustainable social and economic outcomes. The area’s activities are premised on a strong research track record and national and international reputation for scholarship in the fields of vocational and professional education.
Central to that activity is a focus on the world of work. The School is recognised nationally and internationally as a centre for research in TVET. Its full-time contributing researchers also teach into Griffith University degree programs (at bachelors, masters and doctoral levels) for the initial training and professional development of TVET practitioners, policy makers and researchers.
Based on foundations of research, teaching and service, our core capacities include:
-Undertaking informed inquires as research projects or evaluations;
-Conducting needs analysis, designing and enacting education provisions in partnership with learners, their institutions and sponsoring agencies;
-Providing workshops, seminars, master classes, courses and programs to meet individual, workforce and organisational needs;
-Delivering courses and programs in multiple and flexible modes nationally and internationally; and
-Evaluating programs and outcomes.
Recent projects associated with TVET
-training professionals in Singapore, with responsibility for implementing the nation’s agenda on adult education;
-request to lead a project in the Middle East on work-based learning from UNESCO;
-invitations to present research findings to UNESCO and OECD;
-educating graduates now engaged in advancing key national initiatives on continuing education and training;
-supporting international students to develop projects with specific outcomes relating to improvements in their work practices;
-working with sponsored cohorts and individual teachers from VET institutions across Australia;
-developing capacities of educators and training and development specialists in Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Europe, ASEAN countries, Nepal and Scandinavia.
