Building capacities and adopting new approaches
Developing the capacities of TVET leaders and staff is at the core of UNESCO-UNEVOC’s ongoing thematic priorities and its programmatic work. Since 2016, its flagship UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme has trained more than 200 TVET leaders from over 100 countries. This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, UNESCO-UNEVOC took the decision not to carry out the UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme in its usual format. Instead, the UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme 2020 – Special Edition was launched. The Special Edition keeps in mind the programme’s spirit of “moving to action”. Through a call for proposals, UNESCO-UNEVOC invited alumni of previous editions of the programme to put forward activities that would support local networking and capacity building opportunities to address issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, we shared three winning proposals that were focused on teacher training. This time, we highlight the four remaining winning proposals that focus on building the capacities of leaders in change management, developing institutional policies and action plans to respond to the pandemic, and developing relevant online courses.
- Development of three online competence-based training courses in sectors particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
- Providing institutional support to deliver online training courses, including teacher training
Activities: Developing change management webinars for institutional leaders
- Development of five change management webinars to inform leaders on how to minimize the negative impacts of change on their organizations and teams, and seize the opportunities of the post-COVID-19 working and learning environment
- Delivering webinars to TVET leaders and managers, including from the UNEVOC Network
- Development of a handbook on how to foster female students’ participation in ICT and STEM subjects
- Supporting institutions to develop strategies using the handbook
- Development of a handbook on how to revise pedagogical approaches and institutional setups to provide online learning, focusing on inclusive learning
- Consultations with leaders from the institution
- Training workshop targeted at staff on pedagogical approaches
