Dual system of vocational training (German: Duales Berufsausbildungssystem)

The dual system of vocational training comprises parallel training in a company and in a vocational school.

Education or training combining periods in an educational institution or training centre and in the workplace. The alternance scheme can take place on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis. Depending on the country and applicable status, participants may be contractually linked to the employer and/or receive a remuneration. (Also referred to as Alternance training)

This glossary was prepared in cooperation with the European Training Foundation (ETF), The European Commission (DG Education and Culture) and Eurydice (The information network on education in Europe).

Education or training with time in an educational institution or training centre and in the workplace. This is often part of a formal apprenticeship where the learner is at the same time an employee and student.
