The carbon footprint represents the total greenhouse gas emissions for which an organization, a product or a person is directly or indirectly responsible. Strictly speaking, it really should be called “greenhouse gas footprint.” However, when the footprint is computed, gases such as methane or nitrous oxide are converted into amounts of CO2 with the equivalent effect.
