Dear readers,
The first quarter of 2020 has seen the world struggle to deal with the far-reaching consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on health, economic and education systems. Out of the total population of students enrolled in education globally, UNESCO estimates that over 90% are currently not in school
due to COVID-19 closures. This represents more than 1.5 billion children and youth in 191 countries.
As TVET institutions seek practical solutions to move towards distance learning models, UNESCO-UNEVOC has developed a COVID-19 peer support page that provides an extensive list of resources to facilitate this transition. We hope these resources will help you to develop innovative strategies to tackle this unprecedented challenge. If you have any tips or advice on this topic that could be useful for others in the TVET community, share your insights on the TVeT Forum and take part in this joint ILO-UNESCO survey to help TVET learners and trainers, policy makers, social partners and other stakeholders manage the learning and training process effectively, and increase resilience at this difficult time.
In this first issue of the UNEVOC Quarterly, we take the opportunity to highlight the appointment of Ms. Soo-Hyang Choi as Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET and provide a snapshot of our activities over the past three months. For a broader overview of our work, access the newly published UNESCO-UNEVOC Biennial Report 2018-2019 in our online library. We also encourage you to explore the recently relaunched UNESCO-UNEVOC website for the latest TVET-related resources.

Soo-Hyang Choi appointed Director of UNESCO-UNEVOC
UNESCO-UNEVOC is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Soo-Hyang Choi as its new Director. Ms. Choi has more than 30 years of experience in the field of education and previously held the position of Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development within UNESCO’s Education Sector.
