Dear Readers,
As 2025 draws to a close, we reflect on a year of collaboration and partnerships that enhanced accessibility in TVET, supported new approaches in teaching and learning, and elevated the role of skills for sustainable development.
Over the last quarter, our work has strengthened inclusive, forward-looking and green skills systems. The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Programme, the conclusion of greening projects in Nepal, Senegal and Thailand, and the delivery of training programmes for TVET managers and practitioners in West Africa all reinforced the importance of equipping learners and communities with the skills to lead a just and sustainable transition.
Innovation remains a key focus. Through the UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative, institutions co-developed practical and scalable solutions, while initiatives such as the Global Awards for Innovation in TVET, the Skills in Action Photo Competition, and the Green Skills Competition showcase creativity and highlight the attractiveness of TVET.
Across the UNEVOC Network, UNEVOC Centres have driven transformation at national and regional levels, from improving digital readiness to expanding platforms for dialogue, peer learning and capacity development.

The UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative supports short-cycle, collaborative projects that generate practical, reusable solutions to contemporary TVET challenges. A showcase webinar, held on 4 December, convened project leads, the broader Network and the global TVET community to present what was built and tested, surface lessons learned and invite replication and partnership.

Boosting gender equality in science and technology in TVET
UNESCO-UNEVOC launched its Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Programme with a kick-off webinar to initiate coordinated action across the UNEVOC Network. The programme aims to strengthen institutional capacity to promote gender equality, social inclusion and the participation of girls and women in STEM-related TVET.

Greening TVET systems: Insights from project implementation in Nepal, Senegal and Thailand
Greening TVET to meet the skill demands of a just and green transition, a UNESCO-UNEVOC project funded by GIZ, concluded in August 2025 after advancing sustainability in TVET systems across Nepal, Senegal and Thailand. The initiative created new opportunities to embed sustainability in skills development and employment sectors.

Future-proofing people and communities through greening TVET at COP30
At COP 30 in Belém, UNESCO-UNEVOC and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, in collaboration with GIZ Brazil and two UNEVOC Centres — SENAI, Brazil and Ministry Of Education, Kenya — held a panel discussion on “Future-proofing people and communities through greening”.

Winners of the Skills in Action Photo Competition 2025
UNESCO-UNEVOC invited photographers from around the world to capture unique moments highlighting skills in action. We received hundreds of submissions showing how TVET contributes to youth empowerment through AI and digital skills.

Launch of the Global Awards for Innovation in TVET
UNESCO-UNEVOC launched the Global Awards for Innovation in TVET to celebrate outstanding initiatives that are reimagining how technical and vocational education and training empowers individuals, societies and economies. Deadline for nominations: 30 January 2026

Winners and finalists of the Green Skills Competition
The Green Skills Competition was the final activity of the UNESCO CFIT Phase III and UNESCO-UNEVOC project. Participants had the opportunity to apply the green skills gained from their completed microlearning programme to develop and implement a green project within their respective countries. They were also be paired with mentors who completed the training of trainers programme on green skills development.

Global TVET Forum 2025
The Global TVET Forum 2025 was held in Berlin from 28 to 30 October. The event provided a platform for collaboration and coordinated action between multilateral, regional and national TVET organizations. A key objective was to launch the initiative 'Towards a global TVET agenda', sponsored by the BMBFSFJ, with strategic input and expertise from UNESCO-UNEVOC, ETF, ILO, OECD and BIBB.

Strengthening TVET systems in West Africa
Through its Technical Cooperation Unit, UNESCO-UNEVOC mobilizes expertise from the UNEVOC Network to support capacity-building and technical assistance requests from UNESCO Member States and Field Offices. Within this framework, UNESCO-UNEVOC has partnered with UNESCO Headquarters and the UNESCO Regional Office in West Africa to deliver training and capacity building for TVET managers and practitioners as part of the Better Education for Africa's Rise (BEAR III) project.

Webinar series - Skill up, stay ahead: TVET for employability
This four-part webinar series ran from 30 September to 21 October and explored key themes such as work-based learning models, career guidance approaches and partnerships with industry for shaping the future of skills development. It put a spotlight on Latin America and the Caribbean by including innovative practices from the region in each of the sessions, pairing them with examples from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.

Updates from the UNEVOC Network
National Skills Olympics Competition 2025 (DEST, UNEVOC Centre in Algeria)
The Ministry of Education, Directorate of Secondary Technical Education (DEST) organized Algeria's first National Skills Olympics Competition from 17-21 November 2025. The event showcased the skills and creativity of Algerian youth across six disciplines: manufacturing and engineering technology, information and communication technology, construction and building technology, transport and logistics, creative arts and fashion, and services.

TVET leadership workshop on digital transformation organized by Shenzhen Polytechnic University (UNEVOC Centre in China)
The two-day workshop, held on 13 and 14 November, was organized and hosted by the UNESCO Chair on Digitalization in TVET at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU), in collaboration with the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET, the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, and the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa.

Shenzhen Polytechnic University organizes global forum on digital transformation in TVET (UNEVOC Centre in China)
A global forum on digital transformation in TVET was held on 11-12 November 2025 at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU), China. Under the theme of “Accelerating TVET Transformation with Emerging Tech for an Inclusive and Intelligent Future”, the forum convened around 140 participants from 36 countries, including TVET policymakers, leaders, educators, and experts from international organizations, research institutions and high-tech companies.

Africa Skills Week 2025
Africa Skills Week 2025 was held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa from October 13-17, 2025. One of the week’s highlights was a high-level panel titled “From Theory to Action: Advancing the Continental TVET Strategy for a Transformative Future of Skills”, hosted by UNESCO Addis Ababa, in partnership with the African Union Commission, the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Skills, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, the Federal TVET Agency (UNEVOC Centre), and various national colleges.

INACAP Inauguration Ceremony (UNEVOC Centre in Chile)
On 1 October 2025, Centro de Formación Técnica INACAP was officially inaugurated as a UNEVOC Centre. As one of the Chile’s largest higher education institutions, INACAP marked the occasion with a hybrid event highlighting its new role within the UNEVOC Network, presenting its biennial work plan and emphasizing the importance of collaboration and adaptability in a rapidly evolving skills landscape.

International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ICTVET2026)
