Dear Readers,
TVET plays a key role in crucial transition processes defined by the Sustainable Development Goals. Since its publication eight years ago, the UNESCO-UNEVOC Greening TVET guide has helped institutions on their journey of reforming TVET in conformity with the SDGs. A new online guide, published jointly with the European Training Foundation, aims to go a step further in providing practical guidance to TVET institutions in becoming Green Reference Centres.
Another major transition affecting TVET occurs in the field of digitalization. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming many businesses. The division of labour between humans and machines is changing. At the same time, the wide availability of generative AI changes how and where learning takes place. TVET systems must react to these developments. They need to evolve and build on these changes to effectively prepare learners for an AI-driven future. Furthermore, it is important to mitigate the risk of widening digital divides. At the AI conference organized by the UNEVOC Centre Magdeburg in February, Georg Spoettl argued in his keynote speech that it is key to develop “vocational competence”, defined as the “ability to shape work and technology and to use, manage, assess and understand work requirements”. A “work-process related framework of AI literacy for TVET” aims to support TVET institutions.

Strengthening greening and gender transformative approaches in South Sudan
In the UNESCO Country Strategy for South Sudan, TVET is one of three key strategic priority sub-themes of the education sector. UNESCO’s project, ‘Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training in South Sudan’, funded by the Government of Sweden, contributes to strengthening the capacity for effective TVET in the country.

Innovating Iran's instructor training
A joint project by the UNESCO Tehran Office and UNESCO-UNEVOC addresses two areas: Innovating the national TVET and instructor training system in Iran and raising the quality and relevance of TVET for employability of young people in Iran. The project is funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

UNEVOC Network welcomes new members
In December 2024, 15 new UNEVOC Centres from 14 countries joined the UNEVOC Network to advance international partnerships and sustainable development. The new members are ministries, national bodies, training providers and research institutions from Cambodia, Chile, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Georgia, Germany, India, Kiribati, Mauritius, Rwanda, Senegal, Slovenia, South Africa and Tunisia.

Expert meeting on AI in TVET
In February, the UNEVOC Centre Magdeburg organized a conference on the topic of AI and virtual reality in TVET in the inspirational environment of the Factory of the Future (Fraunhofer IFF Elbfabrik). The event brought together leading experts from around the globe to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in TVET.

Virtual learning visit on green technologies & vocational excellence
On 19 March 2025, a virtual learning visit was organized by the European Training Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung (BIBB – UNEVOC Centre in Germany). Together with a new German UNEVOC Centre, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Bielefeld (HwK OWL) and the Danish Technological Institute, the webinar explored cutting-edge green technologies, innovative training ecosystems and solutions to bridge the skills gap in sustainable construction.

SENATI INNOVA: the Innovation Route
In February and March 2025, National Training Service of Industrial Work (SENATI-UNEVOC Centre in Peru) organized the ‘Innovation Route,’ a series of preparatory workshops for teachers and students who will participate in the SENATI INNOVA, a nationwide innovation competition. The specialized workshops were led by leading professionals from renowned educational institutions in Peru and Costa Rica.

UNEVOC Network regional coordination meeting in the Arab States
On 5 February 2025, UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET – UNEVOC Centre in the UAE) organized a UNEVOC Network regional coordination meeting for the Arab States. The objective of the meeting was to understand how UNESCO-UNEVOC’s Medium-Term Strategy aligns with their regional priorities and supports UNEVOC Centres in sharing best practices, accessing resources, fostering innovation and forging new partnerships.
Promotion of TVET among young girls in Cote d’Ivoire
Lycée Technique et Professionnel d'Odienné (LTPO – UNEVOC Centre in Côte d'Ivoire) showcased professions in Agri-Food and Energy during a Career Day organized by Mamie Adjoua High School in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, on 5 February 2025. The event was dedicated to promoting TVET among young girls, which is still often perceived as reserved for boys. Representatives from the Regional Directorate for National Education and Literacy (DRENA) and the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Apprenticeship attended the event.

UNEVOC Network regional coordination meeting in the Asia and Pacific region
UNESCO-UNEVOC kicked off the first quarterly meeting for UNEVOC Network members in the Asia and the Pacific region on 4 February 2025. Representatives from 62 UNEVOC Centres and 12 UNESCO field offices in the region took part, with this stage aiming to be a platform of exchange about ongoing activities and initiatives and to start discussions on potential collaborations among participants.
