Dear readers,
Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is a key driver in enhancing the labour market outcomes and social integration of marginalized groups. TVET is also well placed to enable the shift from precarious livelihoods and employment situations to a decent future of work.
The UNESCO strategy for TVET (2022-2029)
has a just transition as the cornerstone of its work. One of the Strategy’s main lines of action focuses on developing skills for inclusive and peaceful societies. This involves equipping learners with the knowledge, values, skills and attitudes needed to understand their rights and build fair economies and societies.
Inclusive TVET is a necessity for a world facing complex challenges. Our work in the last quarter has centred on empowering youth to meet these challenges, improving access to quality skills training for marginalized groups and developing solutions for the green and digital transition.
By embracing inclusivity, keeping pace with industry demands and fostering a culture of lifelong learning, TVET can empower individuals to build a just and sustainable future.

Empowering youth for a sustainable future
UNESCO-UNEVOC and WorldSkills co-organized an event on empowering youth for the future to celebrate World Youth Skills Day 2023. The hybrid event took place on 14 July in Bonn, Germany and it brought together WorldSkills Champions and apprentices, TVET trainers and trainees, employers’ associations and diverse stakeholders within the skills landscape.

New report by UNESCO, World Bank and ILO says TVET must improve to meet skills and labour mismatch
TVET systems in many low- and middle-income countries do not match skills and labour market needs and are unprepared to meet the large rise in demand for TVET in the coming years, according to a new joint study by UNESCO, World Bank and ILO.

BILT bridging event on TVET for hospitality and tourism
The Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) hybrid event on TVET for hospitality and tourism provided a platform for outlining trends in green and digital competencies in the sector. The conference was hosted by Temasek Polytechnic and co-hosted by the Singapore Ministry of Education on 26-28 June 2023.

BILT Expert Group releases preliminary results of its work
During the BILT bridging event at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, the Expert Group presented the preliminary results of its work to the TVET community on-site and online. This included a summary of current green and digital trends in the hospitality and tourism sector and the skills needs arising from them.

Updates from the UNEVOC Network
Shenzhen Polytechnic University hosts kick-off webinar for the UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative 2023 (UNEVOC Centre - China)
Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) has launched a new UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative on ‘Capacity Building for Digital Transformation in TVET’. The project runs until November 2023 and is designed to enrich the digital skills and mindsets of TVET staff from six UNEVOC Centres in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hudson Valley Community College joins refugee resettlement effort (UNEVOC Centre - USA)
Hudson Valley Community College is the first State University of New York campus to join the "Every Campus a Refuge" initiative, to assist with refugee family resettlement. Families will be provided with free housing at Sage College, while HVCC provides English Language training, job training and assistance with finding jobs.
