Dear Readers,
In recent months, several initiatives have been launched to strengthen TVET and help learners meet evolving skills needs worldwide.
To mark the 10th anniversary of World Youth Skills Day, UNESCO launched the Global Skills Tracker and the Skills for the Future Platform
. The tracker uses artificial intelligence to identify skills gaps and labour market needs in real time across ten pilot countries, while the platform builds on the success of the Global Skills Academy to create a centralized ecosystem for youth empowerment. These initiatives were highlighted during the anniversary celebration at the Learning Planet Institute in Paris, which brought together stakeholders to reflect on progress and explore future pathways for skills development.
The updated BILT Atlas of emerging trends in TVET provides further insights into how AI, green skills and digital technologies are shaping the sector in Europe, offering guidance to policymakers, institutions and practitioners.
Across the UNEVOC Network, collaboration and innovation continue to grow. Highlights include the UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative 2025 and the first regional TVET conference for Latin America and the Caribbean.
These developments build momentum for the Global TVET Forum 2025 in Berlin, where UNESCO-UNEVOC, the European Training Foundation, the International Labour Organization, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development are partnering to advance the ‘Towards a global TVET agenda’ initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).

Global Skills Tracker offers real-time insights into skills gaps and labour market needs
UNESCO, together with its research partner Lightcast, has launched the Global Skills Tracker, a new digital platform designed to identify, through Artificial Intelligence (AI), in-demand skills and highlight the most urgent skill shortages. The tracker provides a real-time overview of labour market trends across ten pilot countries.

BILT Atlas of emerging trends in TVET (updated)
The BILT Atlas has recently been updated with new scoping studies on Europe. These studies explore two key areas shaping the future of TVET: the integration of artificial intelligence and the role of TVET in advancing the green and digital twin transition. They provide evidence-based insights for policymakers, institutions and stakeholders.

Empowering youth for the green transition
From 12 to 15 August 2025, 177 students from higher technical education institutions took part in a microlearning programme organized by UNESCO-UNEVOC under the UNESCO CFIT Project Phase III. The programme focused on green and circular economy foundations, emerging labour market trends inclusive of required skills and circular business models.

Training of trainers on green skills development in higher technical education
A training of trainers programme brought together over 130 educators and administrators from six countries – Ethiopia, Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda – to strengthen the capacity of higher technical education institutions (HTEIs) to support green transitions and the sustainable development agenda.

Updates from the UNEVOC Network
Launch of the UNEVOC Network Coaction Initative 2025
Now in its third edition, the Coaction Initiative continues to strengthen collaboration and peer learning across the UNEVOC Network, which consists of 245 UNEVOC Centres in 152 countries. The 2025 edition brings together lead and partner Centres from multiple regions to work on projects that promote innovation, digitalization, sustainability and intercultural competencies, among others.

Next generation green: Youth leading the transition
At the 2025 AFS Youth Assembly, UNESCO-UNEVOC and Hudson Valley Community College, a UNEVOC Centre in the USA, organized a session on how green skills empower youth to drive climate action. Discussions focused on utilizing data analysis and AI to promote sustainability and the importance of funding TVET programmes. Young changemakers from Namibia and Bangladesh also showcased their climate initiatives.

PUCE TEC hosts the first regional TVET conference for Latin America and the Caribbean
From 16 to 18 July 2025, PUCE TEC – a UNEVOC Centre in Quito, hosted the first regional conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Latin America and the Caribbean. Organized under the theme of sustainable employment and competitive industry, the conference brought together regional and international stakeholders committed to advancing TVET in the region.

Šolski center Nova Gorica becomes Slovenia’s first UNEVOC Centre
Šolski center Nova Gorica (ŠCNG) was officially inaugurated into the UNEVOC Network on 20 June 2025, becoming Slovenia’s first UNEVOC Centre. The hybrid ceremony gathered local and international TVET stakeholders, including partners, public officials and representatives from UNEVOC Centres, highlighting a shared commitment to innovative, inclusive and forward-looking TVET.

Webinar series - Skill up, stay ahead: TVET for employability
This four-part webinar series ran from 30 September to 21 October and explored key themes such as work-based learning models, career guidance approaches and partnerships with industry for shaping the future of skills development. It put a spotlight on Latin America and the Caribbean by including innovative practices from the region in each of the sessions, pairing them with examples from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.

A key objective was to launch the initiative 'Towards a global TVET agenda', sponsored by the BMBFSFJ, with strategic input and expertise from UNESCO-UNEVOC, ETF, ILO, OECD and BIBB.
