Closing the institutional gap: Perspectives on the circular economy from selected African TVET institutions
UNESCO-UNEVOC's study highlights the crucial role of TVET systems in this transition, identifying barriers and enablers to integrating circular economy principles in TVET curricula in Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. Key factors include policy frameworks, industry partnerships, curriculum updates, and coordinated efforts between TVET authorities and industry stakeholders. The study underscores the need for capacity building and investment to realize TVET's potential in supporting a circular economy.

Developing skills to meet climate goals
In a panel discussion at June UN Climate meetings (SB 60), UNEVOC Programme Officer Priscilla Gatonye presented UNEVOC's research findings, highlighting that very few countries have prioritized TVET or laid out strategies for skill development in their National climate plans. She advised countries to invest in TVET, bearing in mind that trained workforce operates in high-emitting sectors. The shift to meet climate goals and ensure a just transition requires changes in the way jobs are performed.

Enhancing TVET collaboration and green skills development
At a conference on “Vocational Excellence for a Green Europe” hosted by FH JOANNEUM in Graz, Austria, Friedrich Huebler, Head of UNEVOC, highlighted the crucial role that UNEVOC plays in fostering collaboration among TVET institutions across different countries. He also described how internationalization can enhance the quality of TVET worldwide. Kenneth Barrientos, UNEVOC Programme Officer, spoke about UNEVOC’s commitment to the development of green skills and competencies.

PUCE TEC inaugurated as the first UNEVOC Centre in Ecuador
The Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador Technical and Technological Academic Unit (PUCE TEC) held an inauguration ceremony to celebrate its membership in the UNEVOC Network. It is the first Ecuadorian institution to become a member of UNESCO’s global network for institutions specializing in TVET.
