Issue #19 - September 2024

Dear Readers,

The last couple of weeks and months were busy for UNESCO-UNEVOC. This year's World Youth Skills Day theme was 'Youth Skills for Peace and Development'. At a series of events on 15 July, we gave young TVET professionals from all over the world a voice. We heard about resilience skills as well as the role of AI.

The survey results presented at World Youth Skills Day showed that the societal issues concerning youth most are environmental sustainability and climate change. Another key area of interest is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has already found its way into the skillset of today's youth: 78% of those who took part in the survey said that they use AI-powered tools or platforms in their training and education. Primarily for research and writing assistance as well as personalized learning and tutorials, but also for many other tasks.

Another highlight in the international TVET space was the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon. 250,000 visitors admired 1,400 young professionals from 70 countries and regions competing in 59 different skills, ranging from "Welding" to "Beauty Therapy" and "Robot Systems Integration".

As we head into the last quarter of 2024, we encourage you to have a look at the many activities going on in the coming months. Check out the upcoming events listed here in the Quarterly and many more in our TVET Events Calendar.

Best wishes from the UNESCO-UNEVOC team
